Global Harmony is our Mission

Hive Open Mic is a lively, diverse, and supportive atmosphere for artists and listeners alike. Musicians, singers, poets, comedians, and storytellers—join in and enjoy! Our open mic event includes photos and video recordings, encouraging musicians to share their gifts with a global audience. In this way, we extend our city’s legacy as “The Live Music Capital of the World.”

Our Austin community is the in-person variation of a virtual live music event that hosts 100+ musicians and 1,000+ listeners each week. We’re proud to say that this community is still going strong after over 200 consecutive weeks of Hive Open Mic events. Our in-person event expands brings the same spirit of Global Harmony right here in Austin, building a community for expression and connection.

Community Agreements
  1. Co-creation – We invite the community to help create our shared space as a collective.
  2. Inclusivity – We welcome diverse expressions, from all backgrounds and skill levels.
  3. Respect – We encourage the audience to practice generous listening.
  4. Time Limits – We establish a specified stage time, with a gentle bell chime to mark a flexible wrap up.
  5. Sign Up – We accept sign ups in person, on a first-come first-served basis.
  6. Free Speech – We grant freedom within reason, with a zero-tolerance policy for prejudice or injustice.
  7. Lens Cap – We cover the camera for anyone wishing to keep their performance exclusive.
  8. Connection – We invite the community to network before and after the event.

Every contributor can be proud of the fact we are co-creating a more harmonious world through our collective expression and connection. Hive Open Mic events offer an enjoyable, creative experience and a chance to discover new talents in a relaxed community setting. These events nurture expression and connection connections between performers and audiences. Attendees engage, network, and provide feedback, supporting emerging talents as they gain stage experience.

In order to support artists in sharing their creative talents with the world, we record performances in photos and footage. We offer photography and videography, sponsored by Arise Video and supported by the City of Austin.
